Eagles schedule: Realistic expectations for Kenneth Gainwell in year two
What should we expect from Kenneth Gainwell during his second season in a new-look Eagles offense?
Sophomore slump… They’re, perhaps, the two ugliest words in the English language for a second-year athlete in the National Football League. Much is expected of Kenneth Gainwell in his second season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The hope is he takes the next step and improves on what was a respectable rookie season. You never know how these things will shake out though. As the old saying goes, ‘that’s why we play the game’.
Typically, we reserve these types of conversations for quarterbacks. Occasionally, we’ll see signal-callers get off to a torrid start in year one before being humbled during their second run by defensive coordinators and the opposing head coaches they face.
Kenny G has proven he has the potential to make good on all of those statements that were made about Philadelphia landing a steal in Round 5 of the 2021 NFL Draft by taking him. He should be fun to watch, but with so many playmakers being on the Eagles’ offensive roster now (A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Dallas Goedert, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott among others), no one should expect 20 carries by Number 14.
Let’s stay in that mindset and dig a little deeper. Here are a couple of reasonable expectations for Kenneth Gainwell during the 2022-2023 NFL season.
