Eagles schedule: 6 dream scenarios for the upcoming 2022 season
The Eagles field a top-five NFL defense all season long.
The next ‘dream scenario’ isn’t something that should be viewed as an impossibility. If everything goes according to plan, Philadelphia should hover around the upper tier of NFL defenses all season and finish the campaign in the top five. That hasn’t happened since 2017, but you know how that season ended. Another surprise appearance in the Super Bowl won’t be something the Eagles or their fans will complain about.
The 2017 defense led the NFL in rushing defense from a yardage perspective. Last year’s squad was up to the task as well, giving up pro football’s ninth-lowest rushing total.
By adding veterans like Jaquiski Tartt, Kyzir White, and James Bradberry along with rookies Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean, there should be no issues with this defense causing chaos for opposing offenses. Plus, welcoming Brandon Graham back to the squad will give the defense a jolt by being a steady force.
Individual accomplishments for this unit come second to team wins. It would still be nice to see a couple of guys wind up in the hunt for defensive player of the year accolades, both rookies and veterans. Philly has the guys to make that happen.
Then, there are guys like Darius Slay and Reddick. The former led the NFL with eight interceptions in 2017. The latter notched the fourth-most sacks in 2020 with 12.5. Can they recapture some of that magic this season?
