With training camp winding down and the preseason approaching, we rank all five defensive units on the Philadelphia Eagles roster.

It won’t be long now! In a few days, we’ll be discussing expectations with the dawn of the 2022-2023 Philadelphia Eagles regular season being a month out. Much is expected of the defense, even if we’re still making assumptions about what we’ll see and how they perform. This is a stacked unit though. Howie Roseman has done a great job.

Just for kicks, and just because we enjoy doing this, here’s a ranking of each positional grouping from bottom to top with the preseason approaching.

54. . . . Safety. 5. player

Entering the most recent offseason, Marcus Epps had his share of both supporters and doubters. The latter seems to be losing members from its ranks though.

Number 22’s name doesn’t have the same ring as some of the greats who have played the position in both midnight and kelly green (Andre Waters, Michael Lewis, Malcolm Jenkins, and Brian Dawkins for instance). Please make no mistake about it though. He’s game-ready and having a great camp. He’s going to surprise people.

Questions still surround Anthony Harris, K’Von Wallace, and Jaquiski Tartt as well as the other prospects who are seemingly in competition if the Birds decide to keep five safeties rather than four. There’s much to iron out.

For now, however, as we did months ago, we’ll still label this as the defensive unit with the most question marks. Something doesn’t feel right, so place them at number five in our defensive unit ranking. Without further delay, let’s stack the top four.
