Don’t look now, but a former first-rounder is competing with a rookie undrafted free agent.

Don’t be shocked if you look up and Jalen Reagor and Britain Covey are both on the 53-man roster, but for now, they need to see this as a competition. They both still have work to do.

Britain Covey, wide receiver/returner

This fan favorite didn’t catch a pass despite being targeted twice, and when allowed to demonstrate his ability as a returner, things didn’t go his way in that regard either. One of Britain Covey’s two attempts produced a negative yardage total, resulting in four yards total. One thing he has working in his favor is this.

Jalen Reagor wasn’t any better when given his opportunity. As a matter of fact, he was worse.

Jalen Reagor, wide receiver

Doggone it! Jalen Reagor is going to make this team, isn’t he? A former first-rounder, he didn’t look like he was any more advanced than the second-teamers he was playing with and against in the first preseason game.

Three receptions on four targets produced 26 yards. 17 of them came on one catch, and for some reason, this team keeps sending him back to return punts. It still isn’t working.

One of his punt returns resulted in a fair catch. The other resulted in no gain. Prepare for another chapter on Sunday.
