The speculation is over. The debates will soon close as well, for a few hours anyway. We can hear Duane ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s voice in our heads now screaming “Finally”. We endured the NFL Scouting Combine, the Senior Bowl, Pro Days, the NFL Draft, minicamps, training camp, and the preseason. Here we are. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ first game is on Sunday, September 11th versus the stars of Hard Knocks, the Detroit Lions.

At long last, we get to see the Birds on the field in a game that counts. We may even be able to make a little money in the process.

Eagles versus Lions Prediction Week 1

Most would agree that the Eagles should be favored in this game, and they’d be correct. Still, the spread probably isn’t indicative of what the final score will look like.

Sure, it’s Week 1, where good to great teams are often the most susceptible to unexplainable losses. Yes, prior to Philadelphia’s 44-6 drubbing over Detroit last Halloween, the Lions had taken four of the previous five meetings including a blowout win of their own (2015’s Thanksgiving Day Massacre), but when all is said and done, the Eagles are far and ahead the better team. This is a game that Philly should be won by double-digits.

Here’s how this one plays out. The Lions will be competitive and keep things close for the first three quarters, but the Birds will enter the final act with a lead and tack on an insurance score late to end a late attempt at a rally.

With that being said, we’d bet the over whether you’re taking the point spread or the total number of points scored. Jalen Hurts throws for two touchdowns and runs for another. Jake Elliott will tack on two field goals. Final score: Eagles 27, Lions 17
