The Philadelphia Eagles are down a practice squad member after losing one of their young prospects along the offensive line. NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reports the Detroit Lions are signing Kayode Awosika to their active roster. The move isn’t much of a shocker from Detroit’s standpoint.

Their starting right guard, Tommy Kramer, missed the opening-weekend game because of a back injury. With former Eagle Halapoulivaati Vaitai currently on the injured reserve, they needed some insurance. Awosika will provide that.

During his young career so far, he’s shown the ability to play both the guard and tackle positions, and with Kramer still being listed as ‘questionable’ on the Lions’ depth chart, there’s a possibility that Kayode could journey from Eagles scout-team member to seeing his name in Detroit’s starting lineup in less than a week.

The Philadelphia Eagles have an open spot on their practice squad now.

The Philadelphia Eagles currently have 16 players on their roster if you include Matt Leo who’s a special roster exemption having joined the team as part of the NFL International Player Pathway program. Here are the other 15 members:

  • Devon Allen, wide receiver
  • Marvin Wilson, defensive tackle
  • Cameron Tom, center
  • Kennedy Brooks, running back
  • Deon Cain, wide receiver
  • Noah Togiai, tight end
  • Davion Taylor, linebacker
  • Dalton Keene, tight end
  • Auden Tate, wide receiver
  • Andre Chachere, safety
  • Le’Raven Clark, offensive tackle
  • Mac McCain III, cornerback
  • Britain Covey, wide receiver
  • Christian Elliss, returner
  • Mario Goodrich, cornerback

Expect another name to be added to this list sooner rather than later. We’ll drop an update when it comes. It would stand to reason that Philly may want to go the route of adding another offensive lineman for insurance as there are only two listed, but you never know. If the Eagles haven’t taught us anything else, we’ve learned to expect the unexpected.
