What appears to have been a three-week tryout has worked out in Britain Covey‘s favor. While there was some question over whether or not it was wise to utilize a roster spot on someone that would only serve as a punt returner, the Philadelphia Eagles employed a different approach to finding their answer to that dilemma.
Covey was waived during final cuts a little over a month ago but signed to the practice squad one day later. During the first three weeks of the season, Philly went the route of elevating him to the active roster ahead of each game.
With that no longer being an option (three elevations is the max amount of times that strategy can be utilized), the Birds had two choices, let him sit on the practice squad and risk another team poaching him or sign him to the active roster. Philly went with the latter approach.
The active roster now., again, houses 53 men. There is an open spot on the practice squad. The Birds also announced another move on Saturday afternoon, ahead of Week 4’s game.
The Eagles have also announced the elevation of Andre Chachere for Week 4’s Jaguars game.
With Avonte Maddox being ruled out of Week 4’s game, the Eagles have announced another temporary change in their defensive secondary. Andre Chachere has been elevated to the active roster for Week 4’s game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The expectation is that he’ll handle duties at the safety position while Chauncey Gardner-Johnson fills the slot corner role.
So far in his young career, Chachere has appeared in 16 games with one start. That’s led to 15 total tackles, including 13 of the solo variety to go along with a tackle for a loss. He’s had a great spring and summer and is worthy of the opportunity to show what he can do on game days.
Roster inactives will be announced 90 minutes before kickoff. Bookmark this one. Updates will be added below.
