The Philadelphia Eagles have some tough calls to make next offseason.

The NFL’s constant dedication to attaining parity is part of what makes it so popular. The worst teams pick first in the next NFL Draft. Franchises that need a game-changer can sign one during the free-agency frenzy. As easy as it has been to fall in love with this Philadelphia Eagles team, the reality is it will be impossible to keep it together as currently constructed for another run in 2023.

21 players on the current roster are playing on expiring deals or one-year contracts. Regardless of how this season ends, vice president/general manager Howie Roseman has a ton of work to do during the following offseason.

Recency bias tells us we should place our faith in him to get the job done, and we believe he will. It’s still hard to avoid speculation.

We haven’t taken the time to look at the financials. Hey, that’s Howie’s job, but if we had our way (and if the numbers worked themselves out), there are six Eagles we’d extend right now. Only time will tell if Philly’s brass agrees with us.

. . . T.J. Edwards, linebacker. 57. player. 54

Following the first 13 games of the Eagles season, T.J. Edwards had either led the team in total tackles, tied for the team lead, or finished second in 11 of them. The only exceptions were Week 5’s game versus the Arizona Cardinals and Week 14’s game versus the Giants. He finished third in the former. He tied for the third-highest tackle total this past Sunday versus New York.

T.J. has been all over the field this season, tallying 115 total tackles, two sacks, and seven pass breakups. All he’s done since joining the team in 2019 as an undrafted rookie free agent is prove the doubters wrong. The Birds don’t always put a ton of stock in the linebacker position, but that changed in 2022. Extending T.J. would continue that trend and be a wise step in continuing an upward trend.

Place his name on our list of Birds worthy of extensions. Here are five more Eagles we’d like to see in both midnight and kelly green next season.
