7 Philadelphia Eagles who need to be offered extensions relatively soon
C.J. Gardner-Johnson may not be extended immediately, but we all want him back, right?
Had C.J. Gardner-Johnson not gotten injured, he’d be at the top of our list and maybe a few others as one of the priority free agents that the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely had to sign. There are no questions about what he has brought to this team from day one. He brought toughness. He brought a swagger.
Since we first learned of the extent of his injury, he’s gone from being someone we expected to see after a four-game absence to someone that might be back by the postseason. With that being said, we wouldn’t toss him in the category of priority signings at the moment, a lacerated kidney is nothing to joke around about, but if he returns, and he’s back to form, he’s still on our shortlist of guys we feel this team would be foolish to move on from.
In all honesty, even if there is some discomfort, we might be talked into keeping him anyway. He has all offseason to heal. First things first though. We just want him to be healthy.
Honorable mention: Philadelphia Eagles DT Javon Hargrave
It can’t be stated enough. On a roster loaded with this much talent, one that has stars everywhere, there will be casualties. Javon Hargrave can ball! There’s no doubt about it, but the Birds aren’t walking into 2023 with all of these defensive linemen.
We’d love to see Javon in the fold for a few more years, but don’t be shocked if he’s the odd man out. A nice close to the season and a strong showing during the postseason could change everyone’s mind about that, however.
