The Philadelphia Eagles still need to lock up the No. 1 spot in the NFC and they’ll likely have to do it this week with Jalen Hurts again.

The injuries are adding up for Philly with Lane Johnson and others going down last week in the loss to Dallas. The Birds will almost certainly clinch the top seed either this week or next, but this week has a little extra riding on it because of their opponent.

The Eagles have the New Orleans Saints’ draft pick and can knock New Orleans out of the NFC South division race and potentially get themselves a top-10 pick in the process. That means the Eagles likely aren’t taking their foot off the gas one bit this week.

I backed Devonta Smith and AJ Brown in the prop market last week, so let’s go back to the well and ride with the Eagles offense in this one.

Best NFL prop bets for Saints vs. Eagles

  • AJ Brown Over 67.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
  • DeVonta Smith Over 57.5 Receiving Yards (-112)
  • Gardner Minshew II Under 245.5 Pass Yards (-115)

AJ Brown Over 67.5 Receiving Yards (-115) and DeVonta Smith Over 57.5 Receiving Yards (-112)

There is so much value on AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith with Jalen Hurts out. Gardner Minshew showed last week that he can run a very effective passing offense and showed that the game plan isn’t changing as far as throwing the ball.

The Eagles have two top receivers that they’ve invested first-round picks in, and they throw the ball to those two guys often.

On the season, Brown has 80 catches for 1,304 yards and Smith has 79 grabs for 1,014. Last week, with Minshew in at QB, Smith had eight catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns and Brown had six catches for 103 yards. They have a two headed monster and that doesn’t change with Hurts on the sidelines.

Okay, I’m hedging a little bit. Maybe, I can thread the needle with these three props, but it’s more likely a hedge against one or both receivers.

There is one player that is a bigger loss for Philly than Jalen Hurts, Lane Johnson. Minshew is more than serviceable in Hurts’ absence, but Lane Johnson cannot be replaced. Jack Driscoll will likely be the starter over on that side and he could get abused by the New Orleans defensive line.

Johnson will try to come back for the playoffs and put off surgery which is good news for the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes because there is no replacing him.
