The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing to play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII for what promises to be an exciting matchup. While there were plenty of great NFL teams in the running since the divisional round of the playoffs, most fans and analysts would join in agreeing that the best team from each conference ultimately made it to the biggest show on turf.

The Eagles were electric for almost all of the 2022 season as they won 13 of their first 14 games (their only loss coming against the Washington Commanders). Though they had back-to-back losses late in the year against the Cowboys and Saints, these came with MVP candidate, Jalen Hurts, watching from the sidelines as he nursed an injury.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, were nearly as impressive with their 14-3 record on the season. From Week 6 until the end of the season, they lost just one contest against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in a 24-27 outing. Their hot streak included a 44-23 road win over the 49ers, per ESPN.

With arguably the two best teams in the NFL making it to the Super Bowl, experts are going to have a tough time with their predictions in Super Bowl XLII. So which team are most experts leaning toward in the nation’s biggest sporting event of the year?

The majority of experts are taking the Eagles over the Chiefs in Super Bowl XLII.

Recently, the panel of experts at ESPN worked collectively on creating a detailed Super Bowl preview. In addition to breaking down quarterback matchups and some of the biggest questions for each team heading into this game, they also each gave their gut reactions in predicting a winner.

According to the panel results, 9 of 12 experts at ESPN believe that the Philadelphia Eagles will prevail to their second-ever Super Bowl title. In their reasoning for their selections, experts like Field Yates, Seth Walder, Mike Clay, and Matt Bowen cited the Eagles’ well-rounded roster and elite pass-rush ability as a means of overcoming Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

The feeling seems to be pretty mutual around the national media, though other outlets have a closer balance in their expert picks. It’s not hard to understand why experts are going with the Eagles. Unlike the Chiefs who narrowly escaped the AFC championship game with a win, Philadelphia embarrassed one of the best teams in the league to easily snatch the NFC crown.

This is nothing new either. According to both raw statistics and advanced metrics like DVOA and EPA, the Eagles are near the top of the league in every major measurable category. This essentially lines up with what we see on film as well.

The spread is incredibly close on this game, and the Chiefs are certainly talented enough to pull off the upset — especially with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. However, Eagles fans can at least take some comfort in knowing that most experts have their back this week in their Super Bowl predictions.
