Watch Puppy Bowl 2023 before the Super Bowl: Time, Date & Streaming Info
By Bruce Ewing
Are you looking for something to calm your nerves before the Philadelphia Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII? Do you like things that are cute and fluffy? If so, then Puppy Bowl XIX could be the ticket.
The Puppy Bowl has been around since 2005 when it was created as counter-programming to the Super Bowl. Even though the inaugural event was narrated by long-time Phillies announcer Harry Kalas, it probably got poor ratings in Philadelphia. The Eagles were in a dogfight (no pun intended) versus the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX that night.
These days, the Puppy Bowl has become more of a supplementary broadcast, designed to give animal lovers something to watch before the big game. This year will be no different as the expectation is this year’s version will be heavily viewed.
Here’s how you can watch Puppy Bowl XIX
This year’s show features a record-breaking 122 rescue dogs from 67 shelters across the country, 19 of them from the Delaware Valley. Contestants are divided into either Team Ruff or Team Fluff and will feature 11 dogs with special needs battling for the ‘Lombarky Trophy.’

On Team Ruff you’ll find Joey, a Connecticut dog born without front legs that runs with a specialized harness. Both teams feature several hearing-impaired dogs that were born deaf.
The broadcast also features 11 non-participant dogs available for adoption during the show. The Puppy Bowl is filmed months in advance, so there’s a good chance most of the competitors have been adopted already, but it’s worth a shot if you’re interested in adding one to the family.
Rihanna won’t be taking part in this one, but a ‘Kitty Halftime Show’ will feature kittens from shelters across the country as well as three kittens also available for adoption during the show. Most importantly, it’s all for a good cause.
Animal Planet and Discovery + will broadcast this year’s Puppy Bowl at 2:00 p.m. EST. At 1:00 p.m. with an hour-long pregame show that starts at 1:00 p.m.
According to International Business Times, the Puppy Bowl’s adoption rate has been 100% so far and with anywhere from 1.6 -2.1 million viewers each year, they’ve done a great job raising awareness for shelter animals across the country.
