Reasons to believe Eagles pass rush can get the job done versus Chiefs
Believe the stats. The Eagles have been dominant all season, and that will continue on Super Bowl Sunday.
We all know that the Eagles’ defense is loaded with talent at all three levels. Sacks, forced turnovers, and one-sided scores have helped contribute to making this a fun unit to watch. They have most certainly grabbed the attention of the stat gurus over at Pro Football Focus.
The Eagles sit atop PFF’s board in several categories. They were ranked first after the regular season and ranked first so far this postseason with a score of 90.2. No other team has a grade higher than 84.5. No other team ranks more than 3.0 points better than the team that they are ranked ahead of.
When it comes to player stats, the grades and the performances of the individuals are just as impressive as the sum of their parts. Nine edge rushers and interior defensive linemen currently hold grades of 90.0 or higher, and three of them are Philadelphia Eagles.
Edge rushers Brandon Graham and Hasson Reddick currently have pass-rush grades of 90.1 and 90.8 respectively, while interior lineman Javon Hargrave leads the way with a pass-rush grade of 91.2. The highest pass-rush grade given this season is 93.5.
The Eagles’ pass rush also features five of the 65 edge rushers and interior defensive linemen who have 42 or more total pressures, Hasson Reddick, Javon Hargrave, Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Fletcher Cox have combined for 290 total pressures across the 2022 regular season and NFL Playoffs.
The Eagles’ pass rush has made life incredibly hard for opposing offenses all season long. If Patrick Mahomes isn’t 100 percent healthy and can’t find enough time to push the ball downfield, the tide of Super Bowl LVII could quickly turn in Philadelphia’s favor. No Birds fan will complain if that happens.
