Raise your hand if you thought four months ago that, on the eve of Super Bowl LVII, one of the more talked about discussions would involve whether or not Arryn Siposs would be activated from the Philadelphia Eagles‘ injured reserve to their active roster. If you nailed that one, you may need to quit your current job, pack up, move to Las Vegas, and help those fancy casinos put some odds together.

The Australian has had his ups and downs as Philly’s punter. He’s equally as proficient at dropping one inside the ten-yard line as he is at shanking one at the worst possible time, but absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Siposs was injured during Week 14’s blowout win over the New York Giants on one of the strangest plays you’ll ever see. Inefficiency by the Eagles on special teams, an issue we have seen more often than we would have preferred, reared its head again.

Backed up in his own end zone, he attempted a punt, one that was blocked. He reacted with cat-like reflexes, scooped the rock, and almost ran for a first down. He fell just short of the line to gain as he was rocked by a Giants defender. That gave the G-Men a first down by way of a turnover on downs. It also knocked Siposs out of the lineup.

The diagnosis was an ankle injury. That landed him on the I.R. and forced Philly to sign Brett Kern, a former Pro Bowler off of the street.

How do we put this nicely? Kern has been shaky at best and that placed a spotlight on Siposs’ ankle.

The Eagles elevate Arryn Siposs to the active roster for Super Bowl LVII.

The Philadelphia Eagles opened a 21-day practice window for Arryn Siposs on February 2nd. That gave them the option of elevating him at any point of the next three weeks. They had until 4 p.m. EST on the eve of Super Bowl LVII to make a decision on whether he’d play or not, and they waited until the last possible moment to make the move.

Friday’s injury update brought news as everyone is healthy and there are no designations. More good news came on Saturday. According to an official team announcement, Philly will indeed activate Siposs for Super Bowl LVII.

In a game like that figures to be closely contested, field position, and every yard will matter. Philly having their best punter available is huge. The news should make every Birds fan sleep better ahead of the big game.
