When did we arrive at a place where teams and players should be punished because they do their job too well? Is this where we are now? Forgive us for being emotional, but we can’t get over this sudden outrage over the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles run the quarterback sneak more effectively than any other team that tries it.

For most of the 2022-2023 NFL season, they were praised for this. They broke no written rule. They lined up every time to attempt one versus an NFL defense that, by our count had 11 men on their side of the line of scrimmage, yet somehow, they’re being treated as though they have tarnished the game by simply being better at the QB sneak than everyone else.

If you’re late t the party, here’s what you missed. The Birds have a quarterback (Jalen Hurts) that can squat 600 pounds. They’re home to the best offensive line in football. There’s a rule that allows players to push teammates past the line to gain. That’s helped Philly become arguably the best short-yardage team in all of pro football.

Now, that the season has ended, there are pleas for league offices to alter rules in an attempt to outlaw the technique the Birds use to convert QB sneaks so effectively.

Peter King joins the anti-Eagles quarterback sneak rhetoric. Darius Slay stands up for his team and his quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

Again, if this comes off as being slightly emotional, you’ll have to forgive us. We think this discussion is asinine. Seriously… What in the world is going on here?

What’s next? Do we punish running backs for being too elusive and change rules because a left tackle is too dominant? Do we change the parameters of how tackling is executed because a safety’s grades are too high on Pro Football Focus?

NBC Sports’ Peter King wants justice, and recently, he took time out of his schedule to demand some.

Thank Heaven for Darius Slay. Big Play isn’t having it. He responded as Darius Slay does from time to time, by going full-scale ‘ether’ on Twitter.

Good for you Slay! Good for you! That’s how you go to battle for teammates.

Sadly, none of that will have any bearing on what the NFL decides to do. We just wanted you to know how happy we are about it.

Here are two things that you should remember forever. Foes often speak to you in a complimentary fashion when standing in front of you, but when your back is turned, they insult you.

True friends, on the other hand, have no issue with correcting you if the job calls for it. They will tell you what you need to hear so to speak. Friends talk trash when in your face but are complimentary of you when you aren’t there to defend yourself.

A foe’s goal is to tear you down. A friend wants to help make you a better person. You can best believe that a friend won’t belittle you or let anyone else do so. Jalen Hurts has a true friend in Slay. Heck, we could all use a friend like Slay. If you already have one, hang on to them forever.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a huge hill to climb if they’re going to get back to football’s biggest game. They’re the hunted. The roster will change, but here’s the good news. This squad is fully united as we navigate the tricky waters of another offseason. It’s always great to have some friends.

Hot. Trade Slay? Another chance for Wentz? What?. light
