What a difference 12 months make. This time last year. The Philadelphia Eagles were coming off of a surprise playoff appearance that ended with a tail-kicking in Tampa at the hands of the Buccaneers. Much of the fan base was angry with Howie Roseman and had questions about whether or not Jalen Hurts was ‘the guy’. Quez Watkins was quickly becoming someone the Birds were excited about. Fast forward, and none of that is true anymore.

As another NFL offseason gets underway, the Eagles are the defending NFC Champions. Jalen Hurts is coming off an MVP-level season where he outplayed pro football’s real MVP on the game’s biggest stage. Howie’s approval rating is soaring, and if Quez was never seen in an Eagles jersey again, no one would bat an eyelash.

There’s also a chance that Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and Jason Kelce all just played their final games in midnight green. The jury is out on that last theory, but there’s plenty to discuss nonetheless.

Eagles news: Wait! There are Darius Slay trade rumors? That has to be a misprint, right?

Here’s someone that we know will be back next season. How about a hand for a two-time Pro Boler in Eagles green, Darius Slay?

No, wait. JAKIB Sports’ Derrick Gunn believes Slay could make sense as trade bait. Are we certain that he meant Slay and not Quez Watkins? Anyway, check this one out if you’re looking for something to talk about at work this A.M.

Slay has three void years at the end of his contract following a restructuring and is due $26.1 million in 2023. He represents $21.2 million in dead cap money.

With that being said, don’t be shocked if trade rumors do gain some traction. The Birds currently have 20 impending free agents. Shedding Big Play’s contract would be helpful for a franchise looking to keep as many of its best players as possible.

More Eagles news: Philly extends special teams coordinator Michael Clay.

This one won’t make a ton of you happy. More often than not, except for Jake Elliott, Philly’s special teams unit left much to be desired, yet somehow, the unit’s coordinator, Michael Clay, just inked a one-year extension.

There’s no nice way to state this. We’re scratching our heads about that one. Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman will meet with the media at the NFL Scouting Combine. Their presser is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST. Expect him to be asked about this and for him to state “he’d never get into discussions about players’ or coaches’ contracts”.

NFL News: The Commanders cut former Eagles signal-caller, Carson Wentz. Might the Jets be interested?

What would we do with ourselves as football fans if we didn’t have stories about the New York Jets trading one toxic quarterback situation for another? Their displeasure with Zach Wilson has led to rumors about possible Derek Carr or Aaron Rodgers acquisitions and even, believe it or not, a reunion with Geno Smith.

Here’s another name that we can throw in their hat. How about Carson Wentz? The former Eagles quarterback was just cut by the Washington Commanders, and if he winds up on another NFL roster for yet another last chance it will be his third team in as many seasons.

The Jets’ general manager is Philadelphia’s former vice president of player personnel. Might he be interested in Carson if other plans fall through? It doesn’t seem like the wisest plan, but stranger things have happened.
