Top Eagles Draft Targets
The Eagles are in a unique position as one of the only contending NFL teams with multiple first-round draft picks.
This comes at a great time for a team that could lose several impact players to free agency and also has a few aging stars.
Let’s try and figure out who some of the best options would be, considering the draft position, the talent available, and the positional needs of the team.
Here are four players (two per pick) who the Eagles might want to consider with their top two picks:
Who to Draft at No. 10 Overall
There are going to be some exciting players here, regardless of how the first nine selections play out. We can assume that at least two quarterbacks – Bryce Young and CJ Stroud – will be off the board, and maybe even a third if Will Levis goes, too. But that’s just fine as the Eagles’ future at the position is in good hands with Jalen Hurts.
This means there could be several enticing options at cornerback, edge rusher, and offensive line who could step in as difference-makers right away.
Let’s examine two of my favorite picks here:
Joey Porter Jr., Cornerback (Penn State)
The son of Steelers legend Joey Porter, Porter Jr. was one of the best cornerbacks in college football last season, named First Team All-Big Ten and Second Team All-America.
His stats – 27 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery – don’t jump off the page, but that’s because opposing quarterbacks avoided throwing his way at all costs.
Porter Jr. held opponents to under six yards per pass attempt and has the size (6-foot-2, 195) to defend NFL receivers.
Adding a player like Porter Jr. (or Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez) would help in the likely scenario that James Bradberry leaves via free agency.
Myles Murphy, Edge Rusher (Clemson)
A rare combination of size and speed off the edge, the 6-foot-5, 275 Murphy was a First Team All-ACC player who recorded 40 tackles (11 for loss), 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups.
The Eagles LOVE to draft players on either side of the line early and Murphy would be a fit for both talent and need, considering that Brandon Graham will be 35 by the time next season begins and Robert Quinn is an unrestricted free agent.
Murphy would not only help the Eagles pass rush immediately, but he could also serve as a stalwart for the next wave of pass rushers in Philly.
Who to Draft at No. 30 Overall
It’s less clear which way the Eagles should lean here. There are multiple positional needs and there could be some VERY intriguing talent here that could make a massive difference in the playoffs.
Bijan Robinson, Running Back (Texas)
This isn’t the strongest need for Philadelphia, although it could become one if Miles Sanders and Boston Scott leave via free agency.
But just think about the potential Robinson would have in this run-heavy offense behind one of the NFL’s best offensive lines.
Robinson ran for over 1,500 yards last season and scored touchdowns in 10 of his 12 games. He’s not only an efficient runner, but he’s also a bruising goal-line back at 6-foot, 220 pounds.
The only problem is that Robinson might not be available here. He’s probably a top-15 or even top-10 talent, but he could be left here due to running back avoidance in the first round.
O’Cyrus Torrence, Guard (Florida)
Again, the Eagles have a strong history of drafting players on either side of the line, and nabbing Torrence here makes a lot of sense.
The Eagles could have questions on their offensive line if they can’t retain Isaac Seumalo and center Jason Kelce isn’t getting any younger entering his age-36 season.
Torrence transferred from Louisiana to Florida this past season to prove his worth against SEC defenses and lived up to the hype. He was the first Gators offensive guard to be named a consensus All-American.
Torrence would give Philly depth and flexibility at a position that has been proven to propel them to wins.
