Javon Hargrave will have options if he and the Eagles part ways this offseason.

The past 12 months have taught us a ton. There may not be a bigger lesson learned than the one that begins and ends with this statement. Philadelphia Eagles vice president/general manager Howie Roseman is the best in the business. He’ll need to wave that magic wand of his and be the best yet again as the Birds have minimal free-agent spending money, a grand total of six draft picks, and 20 impending free agents that they have to make decisions on. One of the biggest fish is Javon Hargrave, arguably the best defensive tackle entering free agency’s pool.

Hargrave is a dream pickup for any professional football franchise that is looking to upgrade its depth chart at defensive tackle. He’s young with plenty of tread left on the tire. He’s also coming off of a stellar season where he was named a Pro Bowl alternate. The problem is this.

The three-year, $39 million contract that he signed on March 21st of 2020 expires on March 15th when the new league year begins. Philly’s decision to allow that means they’ll find themselves in a bidding war if they’d like him to remain in the City of Brotherly Love. You did see the part where we mentioned they’re strapped for spending money, right?

Don’t be shocked if Howie finds a way to keep Javon around, but don’t be shocked if he’s playing elsewhere next season.
