Half-dozen Eagles who shouldn’t be brought back for 2023 NFL season
Has Gardner Minshew ruined his chances of again being an NFL starter?
Every backup quarterback in the NFL lives by a code. Stay ready, and keep the ship afloat if, Heaven forbid, the starter gets injured and you have to come in and win a game or two. Doing so could earn you an opportunity to be a starter somewhere else.
Gardner Minshew did exactly what the Eagles asked him to in 2021. He won a game versus the New York Jets while Jalen Hurts sat out with an injury. Jalen missed two more games this past season, and well… There isn’t a Birds fan in the Delaware Valley or anywhere else on Planet Earth that doesn’t know how those games turned out.
Don’t hear what we’re not saying. Don’t read what hasn’t been written. Gardner played well enough to give Philly a chance to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve, but the loss versus an inferior New Orleans Saints team was gut-wrenching, one that was so bad that some say he destroyed his chances of being a starter.
We’ll have to wait and see what his prospects are once we reach the free-agency frenzy, but from where we’re sitting, it would seem wise that the Quarterback Factory do all that it can to upgrade by finding another backup for Hurts.
