Eagles rumors: Better options for Philly than trying to acquire Derrick Henry
The Eagles can add a younger and/or less inexpensive option in free agency.
The three men we viewed as the top options in free agency at the running back position were all franchised by their respective teams ahead of the NFL’s deadline for doing so. Two of them call an Eagles rival home: Josh Jacobs (Las Vegas Raiders), Saquon Barkley (New York Giants), and Tony Pollard (Dallas Cowboys).
With those three no longer being potential options, here are what we believe to be the top ten impending free agents at the running back position. We’ve removed Boston Scott and Miles Sanders from our thought process.
- Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns
- Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks
- Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings
- Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills
- Jamaal Williams, Detroit Lions
- Jeff Wilson Jr., Miami Dolphins
- D’Onta Foreman, Carolina Panthers
- David Montgomery, Chicago Bears
- Damien Harris, New England Patriots
- D’Ernest Johnson, Browns
All are less expensive options. All are younger players. Are they better than Henry? They probably aren’t, but it’s hard to find great combinations of youth, talent, and cost-effectiveness. Any of these guys would provide that, but it’s probably a good idea to give each one some help and void giving them the full load.
