Jadeveon Clowney’s price tag might be less expensive than it has been as of late thanks to some inconsistent production.

The Eagles will be looking for affordable edge rushers in the free agency, as they may lose long-time favorite Brandon Graham during the offseason. One name that always seems to be in the mix belongs to soon-to-be former Cleveland Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. He’s coming off a rocky year having only collected two sacks in 12 games during the 2022 season.

In 2021, he produced his best statistical season in three years. The former South Carolina Gamecock added 37 tackles, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles to his professional resume in his first year with the Browns.

But, what would Philly potentially get from the 30-year-old defensive end? Recently, when his number has come up, his market has gotten smaller, and in 2020, he only appeared in eight games with the Tennessee Titans during a disastrous run in Nashville, one where he didn’t register a single sack.

Clowney isn’t what you’d call a fan favorite among Birds fans. In 2018, there was that dirty hit on Nick Foles, one that produced a fine, as well as the knockout shot he delivered to Carson Wentz during the former Birds signal-caller’s first and only playoff start.

Clowney figures to be a low-cost pick-up. His most recent contract was a one-year deal that was only worth $11 million. Teams never commit to him long-term, and in all honesty, he’s a better run defender than a pass rusher.
