Is it just us, or are Tarron Jackson and Zech McPhearson suddenly in some hot water?

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Tarron Jackson 191st overall during Round 6 of the 2021 NFL Draft. He suited up for all 17 games of his rookie season and stuck his head in on 18 tackles and a sack while playing 23 percent of the defensive snaps and another 19 percent on special teams.

In 2022, he was inactive for the season opener and appeared in four games before being scratched from the fifth. He was released on October 27th and re-signed to the practice squad where he’d stay for the remainder of the season.

In 2023, Brandon Graham is back for another season. Derek Barnett returns from injury, and with the emergence of Josh Sweat and Janarius Robinson hanging around, Jackson is no closer to working his way back onto the field than he was last season.

Then, there’s the possibility of Philly adding another defensive end. If that happens, Jackson tumbles further down the depth chart.

. . . Zech McPhearson, cornerback. 27. player. 54

When we thought the Eagles might lose James Bradberry or Darius Slay, suddenly, we found ourselves discussing Zech McPhearson a lot. It appeared that it was finally time for the former fourth-rounder to prove that he could slide into a starting role on the outside, but the more things change… well… you know the rest.

Howie Roseman found a way to hang on to Bradberry AND Slay. Then, he added Greedy Williams. Just like that, in a week, Zech has gone from being a potential starter to falling to, at best, the fifth spot on the cornerbacks’ depth chart.

He’s staring up at Slay, Bradberry, Williams, and Avonte Maddox, and if the Birds go fishing for more corners, he’s in danger of tumbling down the depth chart even further.
