Since 2013, the Big 12 conference has been very kind to the Eagles organization.

The Birds have scooped up 14 former Big 12 prospects during the past ten drafts. They really raided the cupboard during the Doug Pederson. Seven players from the conference were taken between 2016 and 2020, including a quarterback you may have heard of.

Jalen spent three seasons in the mighty SEC with the Alabama Crimson Tide (2016-20180 before becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist after a monstrous season with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2019.

Oklahoma: 3 players taken

Two of the three players the Eagles selected from Oklahoma have been working out really well for the team.

Philly first selected Lane Johnson fourth overall in 2013, and all he has done is been named to the Pro Bowl team four times and the All-Pro team twice. He also helped Philly reach two Super Bowls, winning one in 2017.

Seven years later, Philadelphia found their current franchise quarterback in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the aforementioned Jalen Hurts.

In his first three seasons with the team, Hurts has thrown for 7,906 passing yards with 44 touchdowns versus 19 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,898 yards with 26 touchdowns. We can’t forget he led the Birds to the Super Bowl to close the 2022-2023 campaign.

David King, a seventh-round selection was taken by Philly in 2013.

West Virginia: 3 players taken

The Eagles added three former West Virginia Mountaineers in back-to-back years. They selected Wendell Smallwood in 2016. They then added Rasul Douglas and Shelton Gibson in 2017.

Both Smallwood and Douglas had decent careers with Philadelphia. The former collected 850 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 388 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns in three seasons.

Douglas helped out with 118 tackles, 25 pass deflections, and five interceptions in three seasons in a Birds uniform. He’s the only member of the trio that’s still on an NFL roster.

TCU: 3 players taken

All three players selected from TCU came during the Pederson era, and none are on Philadelphia’s current roster.

The best TCU player drafted during that time had to be offensive tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who filled in different spots along the offensive line during his four seasons. His most memorable season with the Eagles was when he started the last ten games for an injured Jason Peters in the Super Bowl run.

Philly’s last pick from the school was wide receiver Jalen Reagor in 2020. They also selected Matt Pryor in 2018.
