First and second-round NFL Draft prospects Eagles should steer clear of
It may be hard for people to get past the fact that Lukas Van Ness couldn’t crack the starting lineup at Iowa, but there’s more to the story here.
We don’t mean this disrespectfully. Heaven knows we don’t, but Lukas Van Ness kind of gives us Brian Bosworth vibes. Football crazy program… Cool hair… Impressive stat line at the NCAA level.
Now, don’t hear what we aren’t saying or read what hasn’t been written. WE BELIEVE LUKAS VAN NESS WILL HAVE A BETTER PRO CAREER THAN BRIAN BOSWORTH HAD. Some are having a hard time getting past the thought that he couldn’t crack the starting lineup at Iowa, but no one should subscribe to that theory. Iowa always starts their upperclassmen. That’s just how they choose to do things in Iowa City.
If we were calling Lukas van Ness a top-20 selection, we wouldn’t have a ton of issues with that, but when you’re on the clock and looking at a guy to use the tenth-overall selection on, he can’t be a reserve edge rusher.
Everything boils down to this with Lukas Van Ness. Whether we’re talking about taking the best player at a position of need or taking the best player available, we can’t imagine any scenario where the Eagles are on the clock at ten and can’t find a better player or better edge rusher than this one. Look at Will McDonald from the cross-state Iowa State Cyclones if you have any questions about that one.
As is the case with Skoronski, we believe this is a first-round talent that will make some team happy during the coming NFL Draft. We just believe that taking him at ten means you ignore a better player.
