812. . Safety. Buckeyes . Ronnie Hickman. 145. player

Another fun NFL mock draft concludes with the selection of three solid Day 3 prospects, including Buckeyes safety Ronnie Hickman.

The Birds finally invest some draft capital in a defensive back here, and rather than go with a reserve corner for the future, they roll the dice on a safety. Ronnie Hickman is a solid choice for the position.

A two-year starter for the Buckeyes, Ronnie has learned a lot while practicing with all of those NFL wideouts Ohio State produces. He’s more reactive than aggressive. He can find himself out of position at times, but that’s why he’s a Day 3 guy. With proper coaching, however, he can surprise some people.

836. . Guard. Bruins . Antonio Mafi. 219. player

Might Antonio Mafi be available at 219? In this NFL mock draft he sure as heck is!

Something tells us that the chances are high that Anotonio Mafi won’t be available at the 219th selection. He feels like a Day 3 prospect. He’s gotten second and third-day grades, but for now, even though common sense tells us he’ll be scooped by now, we’ll mock him as Philly’s sixth choice anyway.

We love the efforts of highly-touted Bruins tailback Zach Charbonnet, but you have to give credit to Mafi for clearing some of those lanes he ran through. Antonio tied a program record with 56 games played. He helped UCLA average over 200 yards rushing for a third straight season. He’s a second-team All-Pac-12 nod and was named a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award. What’s not to like here?

Mustangs . Jaylon Thomas. 248. player. 884. . Offensive tackle

The Eagles 2022 draft ended with the selection of an SMU Mustang. Our NFL Mock draft does the same.

Here’s what happened. While fishing for reserve offensive linemen late, the final pick came down to two prospects, Tashawn Manning of. the Kentucky Wildcats and Jaylon Thomas of the SMU Mustangs. We fell out of love with Manning, citing a lack of athleticism. Then we looked at Thomas’ resume.

After being recruited as a three-star athlete, he improved every season for SMU. As a 2018 Mustangs freshman, he played in seven games (482 snaps) and allowed 11 QB hurries, five sacks, and two quarterback hits at right tackle.  He moved to left tackle in 2019, and here’s what his final five seasons looked like.

  • 2019 – 13 games, 1036 snaps, gave up 13 hurries, one sack three QB hits
  • 2020 – nine games, 653 snaps, gave up seven hurries, two sacks, one QB hit
  • 2021 – 12 games, 653 snaps, gave up 10 hurries, one sack, four QB hits
  • 2022 – 12 games, 759 snaps, gave up seven hurries, no sacks, no QB hits

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a grown man. He’d be a fine student at Jeff Stoutland University.
