4 former Eagles we’ll wish stayed in 2023, and 3 we’ll be glad are gone

Everything is going to work out with the Eagles roster build, but we have to admit we’re going to miss a few guys.

We get it. Heaven knows we do. Roster turnover can’t be avoided in a league with a salary cap, but we have to be honest. It’s going to suck to see some of these guys in another team’s jersey.

T.J. Edwards, linebacker

We were teased for a little while last season. Never have we seen the Philadelphia Eagles organization put so much effort into bolstering its linebacker corps, at least not recently. Still, as it turns out, it wasn’t meant to last.

T.J. Edwards was the guy that we thought would make Philly rethink its position on hanging on to a nice talent at the position. He was homegrown. He led the team in tackles. He had been here his entire career. In the end, it was determined that he wasn’t worth a $6.5 million annual salary.

We can debate whether that decision was right or wrong. It won’t change anything. With that being said, it’s Nakobe Dean’s time.

Javon Hargrave, defensive lineman

Javon Hargrage’s departure didn’t mirror T.J.’s at all. Hargrave plays a position Philly values. We also knew, without a shadow of a doubt that he’d be gone.

He’s still in his prime. We knew he’d break the bank. Heck, he deserves it, but this one stings for two reasons. It’s hard to find interior defensive linemen that play the run and rush the passer with Javon’s level of proficiency. He also plays for an extended rival. He goes from friend to adversary.

Isaac Seumalo, right guard

Isaac Seumalo was another homegrown Eagle and a former third-rounder. He takes his talents to Pittsburgh. The shadow cast by four other starting O-linemen with higher profiles is gone. Maybe the NFL will finally take notice and he’ll earn the Pro Bowl nod that has eluded him.

Zach Pascal, wide receiver

If you’re like us, you have probably never spent so much time watching an eligible receiver that you knew would never get the ball. Zach Pascal’s grit, hard work, and unselfishness will be missed. He told you before he’d “route your (expletive) up”. He takes his talents to Arizona. We’ll see if he earns a chance to prove that.
