There are progressive franchises and brands, and then, there’s the Philadelphia Eagles. Their name and the phrase ‘forward-thinking’ are almost interchangeable, but who are we kidding? If you’re like most of us, you have been a Birds fan all of your life. No one has to tell you about the number of times this team has set the standard. They and Nicole Lynn, attorney and president of Klutch Sports’ football division, have officially done so again.

By recently announcing Jalen Hurts’ massive five-year extension, one that will pay him $255 million by the time the 2028-2029 NFL season ends, they have again set another standard. A deal negotiated by Eagles vice president/general manager Howie Roseman and Lynn has made history for another reason.

It isn’t just about the no-trade clause or the $179.3 million that QB1’s deal guarantees. Jalen Hurts’ massive extension is an eye-opener because of who wrote it. Let the following statement sink in for a second.

With Jalen Hurts’ extension, Nicole Lynn has successfully completed the largest deal negotiated by a female agent in sports history.

As we entered the month of April, we learned of Nicole Lynn’s promotion, one that named her the aforementioned president of Klutch Sports’ football division. A member of Jalen Hurts’ all-female management team, she had already made history. She does now for another reason.

QB1’s extension makes Jalen the highest-paid player in NFL history. It’s a special time for him and his team as Lynn has also completed the largest deal ever negotiated by a female agent in sports history. No one should be shocked that the Eagles are involved.

Progression is embedded in the Eagles’ DNA. Their deal with Nicole Lynn and Klutch Sports proves that yet again.

We mentioned the progressive organization that the Philadelphia Eagles are earlier. Think about a few things. Though seeing African American quarterbacks around the league is common now. that wasn’t always the case.

Warren Moon, a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee had to go play in Canada for six seasons. When Randall Cunningham was named as the Eagles’ franchise signal-caller that was a big deal. He and Moon sparked the imaginations of young black men everywhere who knew, beyond the shadow of a doubt, they could do the same if they worked hard enough.

Sure, improvements can be made for racial harmony in all walks of life, not just sports, but there are positive signs that we’re heading in the right direction. Believe it or not, football has helped in showing us a few.

Seeing NFL teams invest so much financially into black quarterbacks is huge, but this isn’t new for Philly. Cunningham, Rodney Peete, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Jalen Hurts are all connected to a phenomenal franchise, one that remains ahead of the pack and one that extends phenomenal opportunities to women.

We can discuss the executive structure and administration. We can point to football operations. We find phenomenal women in Philly’s scouting departments, medical staff, coaching staff, and every level of the organization, and now, we see phenomenal women in contract negotiations. Nicole Lynn and Howie Roseman have made history, but again, is anyone surprised?
