As per usual, there are no days off at the NovaCare Complex with another NFL Draft approaching. The Philadelphia Eagles and their vice president/general manager Howie Roseman are hard at work. Today’s goal is an easy one for the two-time Pro Football Writers of America’s NFL Executive of the Year… free up some cap space. How do we get that done? We restructure Jordan Mailata.

One day after the announcement of Jalen Hurts’ five-year extension, CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr reports that Philly has restructured the deal of their star left tackle.

Might the news of Jordan Mailata’s contract restructure mean the Eagles are preparing to make a move?

Never would we ever start any rumors or perpetuate them (wink, wink). It has, however, become a time-honored tradition that we speculate whenever contracts are rewritten or similar moves occur. It’s the birthright of any true Birds fan.

Rumors abound about a possible Budda Baker acquisition. Most of us doubt the Eagles would move on a safety that they have to exhaust so many financial resources to sign and then immediately extend. Still, if someone of his talent level announces that they’re interested in moving on from their current team, we’d expect Philadelphia would do their due diligence and inquire.

If we were to wager though, we’d assume Baker heads elsewhere.

Howie Roseman has his thinking cap on. That’s obvious. Finagling some finances, regardless of what happens in Arizona, sets the Eagles up for better cap health in both the long and the short term.

Mailata, a seventh-round draft choice of the Eagles in 2018, signed a four-year, $64 million extension including $40.85 million guaranteed on September 11th of 2021. Eyes will be peeled to see what his new deal will look like once it’s announced and the reported restructure is completed.
