Eagles rival and Philly native suspended for NFL gambling policy violation
Fasten those seatbelts, and get ready for the ride. Things are going to move relatively quickly now. The scouting combine and all of those Pro Days are behind us. There are no more top-30 visits for the Philadelphia Eagles to host. The NFL Draft is less than a week away. Sadly, however, the draft season often brings news we’d rather not report.
According to a press release by NFL Communications, five players have been suspended for violating pro football’s gambling policy, and one of Philly’s top rivals will feel the effects of that decision.
The Eagles won’t face Commanders linebacker Shaka Toney as he has been suspended for the duration of the 2023-2024 NFL season.
Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders and Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore of the Detroit Lions are all suspended indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the coming 2023 season. Once the campaign concludes, they can petition league offices for reinstatement.
Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams, also of the Lions, are suspended for the first six regular season games of the coming 2023 season. They are allowed to participate in all of the offseason and preseason activities. That includes preseason games. They’ll serve out their suspensions once teams are mandated to reduce their respective rosters to 53 players.
The only lines here connecting any of this to the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans lies in that, as you know, many of us are aware of who Shaka Toney is as he is a native of Philly and he spent his collegiate years at Penn State before joining the rival Commanders.
As you know, the Birds face Washington twice annually every season. During Toney’s first two seasons at the professional level, he faced the Eagles four times. Philly has won three of those contests. Toney has stuck his head in on four tackles during those games.
