You know the story well. Three years ago on April 24th, the Philadelphia Eagles sent shockwaves through the NFL by selecting former Alabama Crimson Tide/Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts with the 53rd overall selection, during Round 2 of 2021’s NFL Draft. Three years later, he sat in front of coaches and select members of the media for the first time after signing a five-year extension worth $255 million with just under $180 million guaranteed.

We have, most certainly come a long way, haven’t we?

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts on his new deal: “Money is nice. Championships are better”.

QB1’s deal keeps him in the City of Brotherly Love through the 2028 NFL season. More importantly, a no-trade clause is worked in. That’s the first time the Eagles brass has handed out one of those in the franchise’s near-90-year history. That can’t be ignored.

It’s money well spent. It’s always a wise business decision to hang on to a franchise signal-caller when you find one. Jalen Hurts is just as committed to the Eagles organization as the franchise has demonstrated they are to him.

His first press conference since entering a new tax bracket began with a few words from Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie and a hug before he passed the baton to the now-highest-paid player in the NFL. Jalen, always one to display professionalism, first thanked God as well as those close to him before delivering yet another of his always-witty one-liners.

“Money is nice. Championships are better”. Something tells us a few T-shirts are on the way. While we wait on those and while we have a moment, let’s relive some of the highlights of QB1’s big day.

To the city of Philadelphia and Birds fans everywhere on Planet Earth, we have an announcement. Rest easy. Relax and smile. This franchise’s best years are ahead of them. You can than k QB1 for that being the case.
