FAQs About the 2023 NFL Draft
If you’re new to this, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 NFL Draft as well as a running list of everything the Eagles are and will be doing.
How many total picks are in the 2023 NFL Draft?
The 2023 NFL Draft will consist of seven rounds (as always) that are held over a three-day span. There will be 259 picks made in total.
What are compensatory picks in the NFL Draft?
Every year, the NFL uses a confidential formula, and based on its results and findings, they award additional draft picks to designated teams whom they feel have suffered substantial losses as a result of free agency (i.e. significant players and/or starters that have left to sign elsewhere).
The amount of playing time and production the player provided is factored in among other things. The goal is to provide balance for teams that lost high-value contributors during the previous year.
Philadelphia wasn’t awarded comp picks ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. They are, however, expected to be awarded a few next year.
What are undrafted free agents and when can they be signed?
Players who aren’t selected between rounds one and seven immediately become rookie free agents and are allowed to sign with teams post-draft. They are referred to as undrafted free agents (UDFAs).
