. . Ian Book, quarterback. 19. player. 54.

Ian Book should be able to beat out Tanner McKee and remain the Eagles’ third-string quarterback, but you never know how things might work out.

Ian Book is a bit of an Eagles unknown. He’s so much so that, if you polled even the most die-hard of Eagles fans, most of them wouldn’t be able to pick this guy out of a lineup.

Last season, he held down duties as Philly’s QB3, hanging out on the depth chart behind Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew. This season, he figures to slot behind Marcus Mariota to occupy the same role again. That is, unless of course the ‘Quarterback Factory’ produces a better option in Tanner McKee.

It would seem that Book should be able to beat out the rookie in training camp, but who’s willing to wager that they’re one hundred percent sure it would happen?

Yep! That’s what we thought. It’s official. Book’s seat is suddenly getting warmer.

54. . . . Trey Sermon, running back. 34. player

Trey Sermon has his fan club, and truthfully, he deserves it. There’s a lot to like about his game. Unfortunately, we have also seen a red flag or two as well, and that began when San Francisco give up on him after nine regular-season games with two starts.

How do we put this? If a running back can’t make it work in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, you should be concerned. It’s as close as something can be to being fail-proof at a position.

The 49ers released Sermon on August 31st of 2022. The Philadelphia Eagles signed him a day later, and that resulted in two carries for 19 yards. Rashaaad Penny, D’Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell, and Boston Scott will make this roster, and that means Trey Sermon probably winds up on the outside looking in.
