They say nothing is official until it is. That’s a damn good point when you think about it. We can mull over reports from sources we trust. We can plug ourselves into the guys who are in the know league-wide. Heck, we have even thrown a few trackers of our own out for public consumption. Most of those reports are accurate, but we keep landing on the same theory. Nothing is official until pen is out to paper and we’re made aware that the deal is done. On May’s first Friday, Cinco de Mayo to be exact, the Philadelphia Eagles made a couple of announcements to advise us of several.

Morning on the East Coast began with the official signing of tight end Dan Arnold. Then, as many began making plans for lunch, we were made aware of nine undrafted free-agent signings.

Here’s a look at a couple of handfuls of talented young men with dreams of making the Eagles’ 53-man roster on their minds.

Here are a few thoughts about some of the standouts of this Eagles undrafted free-agent class.

Eli Ricks is one of the names that stand out immediately. A former five-star recruit that cut his teeth at two of the SEC West’s top programs, LSU and Alabama, he’s someone that many believe is talented enough to earn a roster spot.

It won’t be easy. Philly’s defensive backs room is crowded, and we believe at least three of their cornerbacks are locks to make the roster (Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox). Keep an eye on both him and Mekhi Garner as well as the punter… yes, we said the punter.

At Kansas State, ‘Legatron’ a.k.a. Ty Zentner has been brought in to compete with Arryn Siposs. Zentner flipped field position and held down some important kicking duties with the Wildcats, going perfect on both his extra-point attempts and field-goal attempts during his final run at the NCAA level.
