5 running backs on the Eagles schedule that could give their defense fits
So, Saquon Barkley will be playing for the New York Giants this season, right?
After winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2018, Saquon Barkley has struggled to stay healthy. He came back in a major way this past season.
He rushed for 1,312 yards. He reached the end zone as a rusher on ten different occasions. He even tacked on 338 yards on 57 receptions. It was the first time in four years that he played in every regular season game he was designated active, but Big Blue held him out of the regular-season finale to rest him ahead of the postseason.
After notching the third 1,000-yard rushing season of his five-year career, the Giants put a non-exclusive franchise tag on him, and that has led to a bit of a stalemate in contract negotiations. It appears Saquon wants a little more money than the Giants want to give him. Are we to guess the deal offered to Daniel Jones has something to do with that? Saquon knows his value, and he wants to be paid what he believes he is worth.
During the 2022 season, Barkley enjoyed four games where he eclipsed 100 yards rushing. Thankfully, that didn’t happen versus the Eagles as Philly’s defense held him in check. That didn’t just start last season though.
Philadelphia’s defense has held Saquon in check as of late. He hasn’t produced a 100-yard season during his past two seasons of action.
We’re going to assume Barkley will be on Big Blue’s roster in 2023. He is one of the main engines of their offense. New York forgot that as they only gave him nine carries during his lone game versus the Birds last season. He managed only 28 yards in the Week 14 loss. Something tells us he’ll be more involved in the action the next time we see him.
