For the most part, the Monday that followed another rookie minicamp for the Philadelphia Eagles was a quiet one, other than a few scattered birthday wishes for one of the best in the biz, Lane Johnson. Then, as much of the East Coast was looking to put a bow on their workday, the Birds announced they were waiving Andre Chachere.

You never know with the Eagles though. They keep the guys they know on speed dial. Chachere is gone for now, but don’t be shocked if he’s reacquired and placed on the practice squad sometime down the road.

The 27-year-old is a familiar face to the Eagles contingent. Philly added him off of waivers on September 2nd of 2021 after Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts had waived him one day prior. He had previously spent time with four other teams: the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, and Carolina Panthers).

The process of building the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles roster is underway.

Andre Chachere’s release means the Eagles’ active roster, at the time we hit ‘publish’ on this one, stands at 85 players. Josh Sills, as you know has been given a special roster exemption. Once the four remaining draftees that haven’t signed their rookie deals yet are added (Sydney Brown, Kelee Ringo, Nolan Smith, and Tyler Steen), the roster will be at the 90-man allotment for this point of the offseason.

Chachere appeared in 23 games for the Eagles with one start. He has played 591 snaps, 463 on special teams, and he has made 20 total tackles, including 16 of the solo variety. Don’t write him off yet. He’s gone for now, but the Eagles keep guys they know on speed dial.

Don’t be shocked if he never wears an Eagles jersey again. Don’t be shocked if he’s back on the practice squad at some point during the season. Philly now has four safeties on the roster (Reed Blankenship, Justin Evans, K’Von Wallace, and Terrell Edmunds). That number climbs to five once Sydney Brown signs.
