8 WRs hoping to torch Sean Desai and the Eagles secondary in 2023
The Eagles have to slow down the 1,000-yard receiving duo of D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in 2023.
Many thought Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf‘s numbers would decline after trading long-time Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos. They were wrong. The opposite occurred as Seattle’s brilliant duo seemingly improved as Wilson’s numbers dipped in Denver without them.
The 2022 season marked the fourth straight season that Tyler Lockett went over the 1,000-yard receiving mark. He collected 1,033 receiving yards with nine touchdowns during 16 games this past season. That helped Geno Smith win Comeback Player of the Year honors.
Tyler notched a 100-yard receiving day three times. That includes a 104-yard day with two touchdowns in the Week 5 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Lockett hasn’t had his best days versus the Eagles. In four games, he has tallied 179 yards on 12 catches yards with one touchdown in five games versus the Birds (that includes a postseason contest), but Philly can’t ignore him for a second.
The Seahawks are going to roast a lot of secondaries with Lockett and the newly-acquired Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but make no mistake about it. The star of their show is D.K Metcalf. He recorded the second 1,000-yard season of his career in 2022.
Metcalf recorded a career-low in touchdown receptions (six) and reached 100 yards receiving three times. His best effort came on the playoff stage when he notched a 136-yard performance with two touchdowns in the NFC Wild Card Game loss versus the San Francisco 49ers.
Versus Philly, the former Ole Miss Rebel has added 372 receiving yards with one touchdown in three career games versus the Birds. The Eagles’ secondary looks to stop Lockett and Metcalf from having a big day when they face them this season.
