Ndamukong Suh, interior defensive lineman

Many moons ago, Ndamukong Suh was the second player taken in the 2010 NFL Draft. The hope was he would help usher in an era of winning football for the Detroit Lions.

Suh showed some promise early. He also earned an unfortunate reputation for being dirty as a youth, a reputation he shed during the latter stages of what’s been a respectable career.

He’s now one of the NFL’s well-known mercenaries. While unemployed for the time being, don’t be shocked if he lands on a roster at some point. It will probably be with a contender just a few pieces short of being ready for a deep postseason run.

Linval Joseph, interior defensive lineman

Call us crazy. He only appeared in eight regular-season games while registering 20 tackles, .5 sacks, and an additional quarterback hit. He wasn’t as effective during the Eagles’ three postseason games, although being a stop-gap did create some opportunities for others. There were times, however, during the 2022 Eagles season in which Linval Joseph looked better than guys who were a lot younger or earning more money.

We won’t call out any names. You can argue among yourselves, but some of you probably already know who some of those guys are.

There isn’t much of a market for free-agent defensive tackles that will turn 35 years old during the coming regular season. Still, to his credit, Joseph did what Robert Quinn couldn’t. He proved there’s still some tread on those tires.
