After a disappointing loss to end their 2025 season, the Philadelphia Eagles seem to be in a state of turmoil entering the offseason. So much has gone wrong that the only choice is to cut away the dead weight in hopes of rediscovering the dominance of 2024.
The Eagles have already taken a step in that direction by replacing Kevin Patullo with Sean Mannion as their offensive coordinator, but staff changes aren't enough. The roster itself needs work if this team is going to become a contender again.
These three players should be firmly on general manager Howie Roseman's chopping block entering the 2026 offseason.
3 Eagles cut candidates in the 2026 offseason
Sydney Brown
Third-year pro Sydney Brown had a chance to start at safety for the Eagles this year, and he let it slip. He struggled to make an impact on games throughout the season, finishing the campaign with just 17 total tackles.
Meanwhile, rookie Andrew Mukuba stepped up into the starting role and played well. He came down with two interceptions despite missing a third of the season with an injury. Assuming Mukuba is on pace to recover before the start of training camp, there is no reason to keep Brown on the roster.
A.J. Dillon
When the Eagles brought in running back A.J. Dillon, he was expected to be a quality backup for Saquon Barkley. Instead, he's plummeted to the bottom of the depth chart. He carried the ball just 12 times in 2025 and fumbled once.
Roseman even had to make a trade for Tank Bigsby this season to address the backup running back spot. Bigsby looks like a solid addition, but Dillon has seen his chance at a long-term job with the Eagles come and go. His contract is already up, and he hasn't shown a reason for Roseman to bring him back.
Michael Carter II
Speaking of trades Roseman made this year, the addition of cornerback Michael Carter II was clearly a mistake. The Eagles were desperate for another cornerback that could play on the outside, and the former New York Jets defender seemed to be the best they could manage at the time. Even in Philadelphia's desperation at the position, Carter couldn't carve out a significant role.

Now, the Eagles have a full offseason to address their need at cornerback. They'll likely take multiple swings at the position, either through free agency or the draft. Either way, Carter may not see the field again for this team.
