3 reasons the Eagles are right to elevate Cooper DeJean on their depth chart
The news blew in like a mighty rushing wind. Okay... Maybe it wasn't that extreme, but it was pretty damn cool to hear (or read). ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler recently released their Week 6 buzz, and Fowler has informed us it's 'Cooper DeJean time'.
Depending on where you are, you either heard a pin drop or witnessed a standing ovation. Okay... That was also a tad dramatic.
Here's the point. The Eagles top two draft picks of the most recent selection meeting have both cracked the starting lineup. And, in DeJean's case, this is absolutely the right decision. Here are three reasons why we can state that with confidence.

1. The injuries have finally caught up with Avonte Maddox.
No Eagles cornerback has been on Philly's roster longer than Avonte Maddox. No other Eagles corner is more experienced at playing for this team in the slot, but after a laundry list of injuries and wtching him operate so far this season, we may have our answer to a question we have been asking.
It's official. The injuries have finally caught up with him. He simply isn't the same player we remember the last time he was reasonably healthy.
2. His skill set is probably best suited for this type of change.
Eli Ricks can play inside and out, but he's tall, lean, and rangy. Kelee Ringo has the prototypical size to line up at outside corner and be effective.
Ricks is at the bottom of the depth chart. Ringo is a nice depth option even though we'd love to see his role expanded. The coaching staff doesn't seem to be in love with Isaiah Rodgers, so starting the rookie in the slot makes sense.
Plus, you'd like first and second-rounders to get on the field and contribute early. The only way they're truly going to improve is by playing.
3. It isn't like he can do any worse job than what we've witnessed at the slot cornerback position as of late.
So, here we are. The rookie from Iowa has been thrown into the fire. He'll need to endure some adversity and take his lumps. We don't express perfection at first, bu let's be honest.
It's not like things could get any worse than we've seen. Aside from a nice showing in New Orleans, this Eagles secondary has been atrocious.
