ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter kicked off draft week with a bang, sharing that the Philadelphia Eagles are likely to trade star wide receiver A.J. Brown, with a timeline of after June 2.
It is believed that the New England Patriots are the team most likely to land Brown in a trade, with the only questions being when and what kind of compensation will be involved. Schefter made his weekly appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia, where he was asked about whether the Eagles will get a first-round pick, which he does believe will happen with a caveat to it.
"I believe that when this trade is done, it will include a first-round draft pick. Now, it may be in '28. The two sides still have to figure it out and finalize it. Whatever it is, they obviously have had initial discussion 'Okay, would you be okay with this? Would you be okay? Yeah, I think you're okay. Let's revisit this.' But yes, I do think in the end that when A.J. Brown gets traded, I do think that trade will include a first-round draft pick. I don't know what else if anything it will include."
Adam Schefter believes a first-round pick will be involved, but which year works best?
There is an obvious risk that the Eagles won't get that first-round pick until the 2028 season. Next year's draft class is looking good, so general manager Howie Roseman would probably prefer to have his first-round pick in 2027.
Roseman has been strong on making sure he gets a first-round pick out of a Brown trade, and he has stuck to his guns on it. That appears to be the case, which should ease the minds of Eagles fans who are hesitant about trading the star receiver away.
This will be good for the Eagles to erase this chapter and move on from Brown, despite all the good he has done for the community and the franchise in the last four years. The drama and storylines out of Philly created by the national media will disappear, and things can finally get back to normal so the Eagles can focus on a Super Bowl run in 2026.

As long as the Eagles get the compensation fans want with a first-round pick, that will be fine with them, but a 2027 first-round pick would make everyone feel a bit better.
