We're all familiar with the story. The Philadelphia Eagles added an edge rusher out of Florida State in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. That was the same selection meeting they added Dallas Goedert, Avonte Maddox, and Jordan Mailata.

Wow! Howie Roseman was cooking that year, wasn't he?

Josh Sweat has grown into a fan favorite since his arrival. His sack celebration... It's both subtle and a statement. The scouting report on him, however, has been pretty consistent for a while now.

Sweaty can ball out like he's one of the best players on the field, but he can vanish for weeks. He saved his best performance in an Eagles jersey for his last though, registering 2.5 sacks vs. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs and doggone near won the Super Bowl MVP trophy.

Josh Sweat's next NFL chapter will be written in Arizona with Jonathan Gannon as a Cardinals edge rusher.

The deal isn't official yet. It can't be finalized until the new league year begins on Wednesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. EST, but Josh Sweat reunites with former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Per Jayna Bardahl and Diana Russini, t's a four-year arrangement that will pay him $76.4 million.

Gannon isn't the most popular guy in Philly. We'll say that, and that's putting things mildly. His final game here didn't go so well. Some still aren't fans about his exit.

Theories have always floated stating he had his mind on other things during Super Bowl LVII, his next coaching opportunity perhaps. We watched in horror as Andy Reid danced circles around him.

Oh well... We can't prove what J.G. was thinking. That's water under the bridge now. Philly eventually earned that Super Bowl win vs. that same coach and football team that got the best of them two years earlier.

It's also hard to deny that Philly fielded one of its best defenses of all time under Gannon's watch. Josh Sweat earned his lone Pro Bowl playing in his system during the 2021-22 NFL season.

Sweaty leaves Philly after seven seasons as a champion. He notched 237 tackles, 43 sacks, 11 pass breakups, and seven forced fumbles during 104 regular-season games with 64 starts. His lone interception was a pick-six off the arm of Dak Prescott in Arlington, Texas.

He added 21 more tackles, another five sacks, and a forced fumble in nine career postseason games. He made eight starts representing Philly in the playoffs.
