The Philadelphia Eagles might face Chicago Bears third-string quarterback Case Keenum, and he knows how good Philly's defense is.
Bears quarterbacks Caleb Williams (hamstring) and Tyson Bagent (concussion) are dealing with injuries that could keep them out of the Eagles' Week 3 game on Monday Night Football. Eagles fans are super familiar with Keenum after the NFC Championship Game in 2017, when Philly dominated Keenum's Minnesota Vikings team en route to the Super Bowl and their first title.
The situation is very different this time around, as Keenum faces a different defense than in 2017. Chicago's new potential quarterback knows what this Eagles defense can do.
Case Keenum thinks he's ready to face the Eagles' feared defense in Week 3
Keenum had a chance to speak with the local Chicago media about the Eagles and facing their defense. He knows he has his work cut out for him.
"Obviously, we have some history with them," Keenum said via FOX29's Jeff Skversky. "I have some history with them, but I think it's going to be a heck of a football game. I'm excited to go. I mean, that's a great defense. It really is. I mean, up front, those are some of the best two guys up front that are playing the game right now. And I think all over the board, you look at playmakers that they have on the defense. So, we got our work cut out for us.
That's Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis he is talking about up front. Yeah, they are pretty good at football.
Carter has racked up seven pressures, six hurries, four tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one sack, and one forced fumble. He's doing it while dealing with a wrist injury, just to add that in there, so he's not even 100% and is still causing problems.
Davis has nine tackles, five stops, one pressure, and one hurry. Pro Football Focus has him as the 10th-highest-graded interior defensive lineman in the NFL with a 79.2. Davis earned a pass-rush grade of 71.6 (ranked 19th) and a run-defense grade of 72.8 (ranked 13th).
Keep in mind, we haven't even talked about the other playmakers Keenum hinted at in his answer. Those include Zack Baun, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Jalyx Hunt.
This Eagles defense is full of talent, which is why they rank 11th in the league in yards allowed per game, at 293. They are also sixth against the pass, allowing 166 yards per game.
The scary part is the Eagles' defense hasn't even played to their full potential. Jihaad Campbell is struggling in coverage, the safety position has tackling issues, and Jonathan Greenard hasn't played yet this season.

Once the Eagles resolve their defensive issues, though, they'll have one of the top defenses in the NFL because of their young talent. Keenum has every right to be nervous about playing a unit this good.
