The Philadelphia Eagles are off to Super Bowl LIX and the Washington Commanders... are not. While throwing some Washington gear onto the beloved Rocky Statue in Philadelphia isn't the sole reason why the Commanders' season has now come to an end at the hand of the Eagles, it didn't help their cause.
The Eagles walloped their division rivals in the NFC Championship Game, winning the game by a lopsided score of 55 to 23 and effectively icing the game early on in the fourth quarter. The Commanders turned the ball over multiple times and the Eagles made them pay.
Opposing fans continue to foolishly put their gear on Rocky only to watch their team lose
Going back to the Rocky statue curse, however, this isn't the first time a team's fan base has messed with the famous landmark and paid the ultimate price. In the 2017 NFC Championship Game, Vikings apparel was put on Rocky and the Eagles went on to steamroll Minnesota by a 38-7 final.
A few weeks later in Super Bowl LII, Patriots fans got cute by putting their merch on Rocky and then saw their team lose an epic shootout in the big game. 49ers gear was placed on Rocky ahead of the 2022 NFC Championship Game and the Eagles blasted them big time in that one. And now, we have the most recent instance with Commanders fans disrespecting the statue and the city only to see their team lose in blowout fashion.
At some point, you'd have to wonder when fan bases will learn not to do this but Eagles fans enjoy seeing the team take it out on them. There's an expression: F*** around and find out and that's what these fanbases have done. They've messed with the Eagles and the city of Philadelphia only for the Eagles to get their revenge on the field.
