Entering the 2026 season, the Philadelphia Eagles spent heavily on long-term contracts to solidify their defensive front. All that $328 million they spent for the future just got burned up after their Week 7 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The biggest contract went to defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who got a four-year, $152 million extension, the largest by a defensive tackle in NFL history. Jordan Davis also earned a record-breaking contract, with a three-year, $78 million extension, the most by a nose tackle in history. Add in the draft-day trade for Jonathan Greenard, who received a four-year, $98 million contract extension.

Philly spent all that money and what did it show in Week 7 against the Cowboys? Absolutely nothing.

Week 7 showed Eagles wasted so much money on the defensive line

Let's start with the biggest offseason waste of money: Greenard. He's already missed three games this season and has pretty much been banged up all year, so it's no surprise he wouldn't show up when the Eagles needed him.

They were already without Nolan Smith Jr. for the game, so everyone assumed Greenard might finally step up. Nope, he would have zero tackles, zero pressures, and zero quarterback hits. Cool, thanks for not showing up, Greenard.

Next, Davis, who has been a fan favorite over the years, is quite frankly not having the best season. He had four tackles and one pressure, but he didn't really make an impact.

To end it with Carter, he racked up two tackles, zero pressures, zero quarterback hits, and zero sacks. He will be fined for a stupid hit to the face on a Cowboys player, so that was the most action he got all game.

Summing up all the stats: six tackles, one pressure, zero quarterback hits, and zero sacks. Add that they were part of the defense that allowed 204 rushing yards against one of the NFL's worst run-offenses: the Cowboys. Yep, not great.

Eagles' defensive line has just not been great at all this season

Everyone is trying to understand what the deal is with Greenard, as he can't stay healthy and he is barely making any kind of impact this season. Outside of five pressures, three hurries, and two quarterback hits, he has not been the guy Eagles fans were hoping he would be.

Davis has been decent, but again, no real big highlight plays for him. He does have 14 stops, six pressures, four hurries, one batted pass, and one sack. The problem is that it feels as though he was more impactful on defense last year than in 2026.

Carter has been a disappointment as well since he has been dealing with a wrist injury. He is still doing a lot of good work with pass-rushing with 16 pressures, 12 hurries, seven stops, three sacks, and two pass deflections. It hasn't been all bad, but he is just way too inconsistent.

The Eagles are going to be stuck with these guys over the next few years, so something better improve between those three. This franchise has invested a lot of money in them and so far, it's been inconsistent at best.
