Eagles add a familiar face to the second level of an already impressive defense

Philly adds a depth signing for their linebacker corps in wake of the Nakobe Dean news, and it's someone who we are already familiar with.

Often, when we find ourselves growing fond of someone on the Philadelphia Eagles roster and they get their walking papers, we don't even trip. Philly has a way of keeping those familiar guys on speed dial. You know... Just in case there's some sort of emergency or something.

How many times was Greg Ward signed and released? Like 90?

We'll always remember Greg for hauling in that game-winning TD vs. Washington. We don't maintain that same level of fondness for Nicholas Morrow, but we like the guy. And, we certainly weren't shocked when Philly reacquired him post-news of Nakobe Dean's injury.

Nicholas Morrow returns to the nest for another run with the Eagles as a member of Philly's practice squad.

If you're a casual fan, and the name 'Nicholas Morrow' sounds familiar, that's because it should. He's a former undrafted rookie who played with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears before landing in the City of Brotherly Love.

Though this isn't totally true, we always looked at Nicholas Morrow's acquisition like he was a trade-off for T.J. Edwards, so if we're being honest, Morrow had a lot of work to do to prove to us he was someone we should be excited about.

He can't cover to save his life, but he did fairly well in that regard. He wasn't Zack Baun or anything, but he was okay.

He appeared in 15 regular-season games with 12 starts. The result was 95 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. Nakobe Dean's season is over. We know Philly likes guys they're familiar with. They certainly aren't getting T.J. Edwards back, so bringing Morrow back could be viewed as the next best option.

Yes... Yes.. We know. We remember seeing Brock Purdy target Morrow and Christian Elliss and throw for 162 yards, a 145.8 passer rating, and a TD. Still, he won't have to be the star in this defense and Vic Fangio is now in charge of that side of the ball.

That gives us confidence. This is a solid signing and probably one of the better a playoff team can make at this juncture. Expect to see Baun, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and Oren Burks carry the load though.
