Eagles captain Jake Elliott is using his Super Bowl experience as an advantage

Thanks to past success and recent struggles, Jake Elliott's experience in his third Super Bowl could play a crucial role in Philadelphia’s championship hopes.

Jake Elliott was a rookie when the Philadelphia Eagles last won a Super Bowl in February of 2018. As an inexperienced 23-year-old kicker drafted in the fifth round by the Bengals, he had no clue that he would be heading to the Super Bowl. He also had no idea about the hullabaloo that comes along with doing so.

Fast forward seven years, and he's been there and done that. He won Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots, lost Super Bowl 57 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and is now set for a third appearance in football's biggest game on Sunday.

From rookie to veteran leader, Jake Elliott is ready to seize the moment.

Many players talk in-depth about the advice they receive during the week leading up to the Super Bowl. A smaller amount of players get to share the advice crucial for success.

The eight-year veteran kicker is one of those guys who can share some wisdom. "I've been around this thing for a while, so I feel like I'm the one giving advice a little bit now later on in my career," Elliott said in a one-on-one interview with Inside the Iggles.

The Eagles have a young core, so a guy with experience like Elliott is key to a successful week leading up to the big game. "Having been to a couple of these things, I've been able to lean on some past experiences and try to help the other guys out with the week," Elliott said.

The week is filled with events like Monday's opening night, followed by three straight days of media availabilities, with news outlets from all over the world traveling to New Orleans to cover the week before the pinnacle of sports.

For Elliott, though, he's ready to focus on the Chiefs and avenge their 2023 Super Bowl loss against the defending champs, 38-35. "I'm excited about just kind of getting back to football and getting all this stuff early on in the week done with," the veteran kicker said.

Jake Elliott has an opportunity to make an impact on Sunday.

Jake Elliott has been massive for the Eagles in Super Bowl matchups. He converted all five of his attempts in his two Super Bowl appearances that preceded this one. He made all six of his extra-point attempts.

The 30-year-old kicker has struggled in the 2024-25 season and has misfired on either a field goal or extra-point attempt in all three of the Eagles' playoff games. He missed three extra points in Philadelphia's first two playoff games and a field goal in the NFC Championship against the Washington Commanders.

The down year and panic that has come as a result has done little to bother him. He says he goes about the same routine each time.

"I'm a very process-oriented guy, so I go through my process every week to develop a plan for Sunday, and that's what it is," Elliott said. "It's a one-game season now, and I'm looking forward to attacking that."

If the Eagles want to pull through against the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday, Elliott will surely be part of their success. The last time the two teams met in the big game. Three points were the difference. One missed kick, and Philadelphia's magic season could be in jeopardy.
