Uh oh. This isn't the story we thought we'd be writing today. Kenny Pickett tossed the first touchdown pass by the Philadelphia Eagles, not Jalen Hurts. Things were going well in Landover. Philly's defense forced a turnover on downs during the Washington Commanders first drive. They drove down the field, and Saquon Barkley punched one in for six.
The Eagles' defense forced a punt on the Commanders' second drive. A very bad sequence came a few moments later.
Jalen Hurts left the Eagles vs. Commanders game and is being evaluated for a concussion.
Okay, here's your update.
Philly was facing a 2nd-and-20 scenario. Jalen scrambles and picks up 13 yards and was hit while going down. Looking at it live, the hit appeared to be late. There was no flag.
Jalen's head hit the ground. He tried to stay in the game. The refs made him leave. He entered the injury tent, eventually exited, and tried to re-enter the game.
He was told he couldn't. He left the playing field to enter the locker room, and at the time of this story's publishing, he has yet to rejoin his teammates on the sideline.
A suspected concussion is the diagnosis. Stay tuned. We'll keep you posted if updates are reported.
Update: Jalen Hurts AND Will Shipley are out.
An update comes about an hour after kickoff. Jalen Hurts is out. Will Shipley, injured on a kickoff return is also out. Both have been diagnosed with concussions.
The battle for the NFC East's crown is in the hands of Kenny Pickett... officially now... Let's hope those hands are capable.
