Every Philadelphia Eagles fan knew how versatile defensive backs Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship was from their play on the field and the work on their podcast "Exciting Mics." Now, the two might have a new role they weren't expecting to play in their careers.

Before the Eagles' training camp practice, DeJean and Blankenship were seen working on the special teams side of the ball. It wasn't to help with coverage on kickoffs or punt returns. It was an entirely different role.

They were seen as holders for kicker Jake Elliott as they were practicing catching snaps from long snapper Charley Hughlett, as they appear to be the emergency holders. Punter Braden Mann is usually the man for the job for the Eagles.

Just add that to the list of things DeJean and Blankenship can do for the Eagles

It's beneficial for the Eagles to have an emergency plan in place in case Mann is unable to serve as the holder for any reason. Some might not see it as a big deal, but after Elliott's struggles in the regular season last year.

DeJean is used to playing multiple positions for the Eagles. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has big plays for the young second-year corner as DeJean has lined up as a safety, outside cornerback, and slot corner throughout minicamp and training camp.

Blankenship hasn't been asked to do the same, but he has shown Eagles fans over the last two seasons that he can drop back into coverage and lay the hit on an offensive player when asked. He's taking on another role this year that's different from what he has done in the past, as Blankenship is being looked at as a leader for this team.
