The Philadelphia Eagles are down to their third-string quarterback but things are going pretty well considering the circumstances. Tanner McKee came into the game after Kenny Pickett (who was filling in for Jalen Hurts) was injured and threw his first-ever NFL touchdown pass.
The touchdown pass went to A.J. Brown, who then chucked the football into the stands without a second thought. Suddenly, it dawned on Brown that he shouldn't have done that since it was McKee's first-ever touchdown pass and he'd certainly want that ball as a keepsake.
Once Brown realized the error of his ways, he was begging the fan for the ball back and reportedly offered the fan a signed jersey. Finally, Big Dom made sure the ball was returned to McKee and the fan obliged. McKee has his ball back and that fan likely will get some other perks for returning the football.
A.J. Brown nearly cost Tanner McKee his first TD ball
McKee helped lead the Eagles on an 8-play, 65-yard drive where the former Stanford quarterback threw three passes. Two of those passes were completed attempts with one of them going for the touchdown to Brown to put the Eagles up 34-7.
With the Eagles needing to bounce back and win games after their loss to Washington a week ago, having their third-string quarterback isn't an ideal situation. Fortunately, the team was already holding onto a large lead when McKee, who had never taken an NFL snap before this game, was thrown into the deep end of the pool.
Eliot Shorr-Parks had the best timeline of the events, explaining who all the ball went to from the time Brown chucked it into the stands.
Once the game wrapped, A.J. kept his word!
The most important thing here is that McKee got his ball back and can cherish it forever regardless of how his NFL career turns out.
