Head coach Nick Sirianni and Philadelphia Eagles are looking to do whatever they can to keep the infamous tush push play that have effectively been running that ultimately helped them reach and win the Super Bowl this past Febraury. Them, and the Buffalo Bills, are the only teams that heavily run this play.
Now there is going to be a vote on whether or not the play will be banned because the Green Bay Packers were the team that filed for the rule change of banning it. Maybe if Green Bay found a way to pull off the play and or even stop it, then maybe they wouldn’t have filed the proposal.
Sirianni has already made comments on how his former assistant coaches (Shane Steichen, Jonathan Gannon, and Kellen Moore) should be voting to keep the play seeing as how “that they are in their current positions” with their respective teams. However, there has been one coach that has already expressed how the play should be banned.
Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott talked about how even though there is no data regarding injury from this play, the player’s health and safety should be a priority and it’s been to get ahead of the game. It is very surprising to see McDermott make these comments seeing as how he had no problem letting the Bills do that play in 2024 with Josh Allen. Maybe if they did it right in the AFC championship game against the Chiefs, then maybe they would have advanced to the Super Bowl and McDermott wouldn’t have said this.
Latest update about tush push play should get Eagles fans in a fantastic mood
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz gave an update about the progression of the tush push potentially being banned and it should make Eagles fans rejoiced.
According to Schultz, “the tush-push ban is unlikely to have the votes to be banned and there’s a better chance discussions will be tabled for a future owners meeting.” Schultz also mentioned that a source of his said “the current language in the proposal is just not clear enough and can be easily manipulated.”
From what it sounds like, the tush push has to be discussed more so Sirianni may get his wish of it being upheld and not banned. Quite frankly, there is no reason why it should be banned. It’s not the Eagles’ fault that their opponents can’t stop it or pull it off themselves. Why would you take away a play from a team just because they are so successful with it?
It’s up to defensive units to find a way to stop it and the Eagles shouldn’t be punished because other teams can’t contain it. Plain and simple. Hopefully this becomes true and that we can see this play being ran again in 2025.
